After two previous successful Side by Side events, we invite you to the launch of Side by Side Conversations, in an intimate, relaxed setting where you will hear from a diverse range of speakers who will challenge and inspire you. 

The evening will begin with drinks and canapes prepared by our Heart Cafe on our rooftop terrace, where you can mingle with other like-minded individuals. 

You will hear from international speaker and social entrepreneur Magatte Wade, journalist and TV presenter Emma Alberici and Wayside Chapel's CEO & Pastor Jon Owen as they lead a conversation about what we can do to create a fair and equitable society. The event will conclude with an interactive Q&A session and networking.

Meet the Speakers 

Magatte Wade

Magatte Wade is an international speaker, entrepreneur and founder of Skin is Skin, a skincare company manufactured in Senegal and dedicated to undoing the cultural habit of discrimination. She is passionate about creating jobs and prosperity in Africa through entrepreneurship and wielding the power of brands and business to impact social and cultural change. She has been named one of the “Twenty Young Power Women of Africa” by Forbes U.S. 

Emma Alberici

Emma Alberici is the ABC’s Chief Economics Correspondent and one of Australia’s most highly regarded journalists. She was the first-ever mother to be a foreign correspondent as Europe Correspondent for the ABC and hosted ABC1’s Flagship current affairs program Lateline for six years. Emma has been a finalist three times in the Walkley Awards for journalistic excellence and is author of three editions of The Small Business Book.

Jon Owen

Jon Owen is Pastor and CEO of Wayside Chapel. He initially joined Wayside Chapel in 2016 as an Assistant Pastor where he also became Head of People and Culture based in Kings Cross. Jon was born in Malaysia and migrated to Australia with his family in the late 1970s. Jon is a qualified social worker and for over 20 years he lived and served amongst Australia’s most disadvantaged communities sharing hope and his home with people seeking asylum, people in recovery, people fleeing domestic violence, and ex-prisoners.
